National Tree Day

Sunday 31 July 2011

The day was a great success with beautiful weather. We were so pleased to see so many people responding to the spirit of this special day and our project.

THANK YOU to all 63+ adults and children who participated.

Thanks also to the Geelong Landcare Network Coordinator Bronte Payne for assistance and all those involved in spreading the message about the day, Batesford-Fyansford-Stonehaven Landcare members and especially Lit and George Belcher, owners of the Sanctuary, for organising a great lunch.

What we achieved

We planted 1,100 large shrubs, medium shrubs and ground covers, and 560 Danthonia (Wallaby Grass).

All seeds and cuttings were collected from Dog Rocks Flora & Fauna Sanctuary and propagated at Barwon Water Nursery by the Batesford-Fyansford-Stonehaven Landcare Group, National Green Jobs Corp (Stuart Quick) and Covenant College (John Rees and Steve Demetriou).

On Friday 29 July, National Tree Day for Schools, Covenant College planted 840 Poa labillardieri in Moorabool River Reserve.
